Adults entrust.
Children become.Becoming Pathways™ equips adults to intentionally cultivate who children are becoming through developmentally sequenced Thoughtful Entrustments™, from age 3 through 21.
Who is this person becoming?
Every child is becoming someone.
The question is not whether becoming is happening.
The question is whether the adults around the child are noticing it, shaping it, and thoughtfully entrusting what helps that becoming take root.
Becoming Pathways™ exists to help adults answer that question well.
The philosophy is explored fully in I Am Becoming by Osato Ojofeitimi.
A clear pathway.
Intentional entrustment.
Every child is becoming. But becoming is not random.
It unfolds through developmentally appropriate opportunities, responsibilities, relationships, experiences, and thoughtful entrustments.
Becoming Pathways™ organizes those entrustments into a clear developmental progression—helping adults know what to entrust, when to entrust it, and why it matters.
This is not a collection of activities.
It is a framework for cultivating becoming.
The method is
Thoughtful Entrustment™.
Every Thoughtful Entrustment™ begins with preparation. The adult prepares everything needed for the experience. The environment, materials, expectations, and support are intentionally arranged so the child or young person is equipped to carry meaningful responsibility successfully.
Children and young people are not merely told they are capable. They discover their capability by carrying real responsibility that has genuine meaning and purpose.
Becoming is not cultivated through explanation alone. It unfolds as children and young people carry meaningful responsibility, reflect on the experience, and gradually become the people they are capable of becoming.
They become capable when adults thoughtfully entrust them with meaningful responsibility — and then allow them to carry it.
A Thoughtful Entrustment™ is developmentally appropriate, genuinely meaningful, intentionally supported, and thoughtfully designed to cultivate who a child or young person is becoming.
The adult prepares the opportunity. The child carries the responsibility. Becoming happens in the carrying.
Becoming is cultivated
through five vehicles.
These are not isolated skills to be mastered. They are the five enduring vehicles through which becoming unfolds. Each vehicle appears differently at every developmental stage, deepening over time until it becomes part of who a person is—not simply something they can do.
The vehicle through which children and young people grow into people who make the lives of others better.
The vehicle through which children and young people grow into people who bring clarity, understanding, and connection.
The vehicle through which children and young people grow into people who begin rather than wait.
The vehicle through which children and young people grow into people who create possibilities where others see obstacles.
The vehicle through which children and young people grow into people who continue forward with courage through adversity.
The intentionally designed
experience of
becoming.
Built upon The Becoming Philosophy™, implemented through Thoughtful Entrustment™, and cultivated through the Five Vehicles of Becoming™.
Together, these three foundations form Becoming Pathways™—a practical framework that helps adults intentionally cultivate who children and young people are becoming.
Every thoughtful opportunity is intentionally designed so children and young people are entrusted, participate meaningfully, contribute, reflect, and gradually grow into the people they are capable of becoming.
One developmental pathway.
Ages 3–21.
Each stage builds upon the one before it. Rather than treating childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood as separate experiences, Becoming Pathways™ provides one continuous developmental progression from early childhood through professional readiness. Each stage introduces developmentally appropriate Thoughtful Entrustments™, allowing children and young people to grow with increasing responsibility, confidence, judgment, contribution, and independence. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is skipped. Every stage prepares for what comes next.
Simple responsibilities that build the habit of caring for the world around them.
Structured entrustments with real audiences. Children begin to feel what it means to contribute.
Responsibilities with genuine consequences and real people who depend on the child.
Interconnected responsibilities, understanding how actions affect larger systems.
Elevated consequence. Decision-making developed through meaningful challenge.
Supervised independence. Reduced scaffolding, greater ownership of outcomes.
Full ownership. Lead, initiate, be accountable at a level approaching adult responsibility.
Professional readiness, civic responsibility, and stewardship of the world.
One framework.
Two editions.
Wherever children and young people are becoming.

Whether cultivated within a family or facilitated with a group, the Becoming Philosophy™, developmental progression, Thoughtful Entrustments™, and Five Vehicles of Becoming™ remain exactly the same.
The two editions simply reflect the context in which becoming is taking place.

The philosophy begins in
I Am Becoming.
Before the framework, there is a way of seeing.
I Am Becoming introduces the philosophy behind Becoming Pathways™ through true stories, ordinary moments, and the question that changes everything: Who is this person becoming?
Drawn from nearly three decades of observing children, the book invites readers to see childhood differently.
The book changes how you see.
The framework changes what you do.
You do not have to wonder
what to entrust next.
Becoming Pathways™ gives adults a clear, intentional framework for cultivating becoming—one Thoughtful Entrustment™, one season, one developmental stage at a time.
